WRITE ON INFORMATION
Washington Law Review is the UW Law School’s flagship student-edited legal journal. It is open to students who join after 1L or during winter quarter of 2L, and membership is competitive based on academic performance and writing ability.
What it is
Washington Law Review publishes scholarly legal writing and serves as a major platform for legal analysis at UW. The journal publishes four print issues a year, posts online features, and hosts an annual symposium.
How students join
For UW Law students, joining typically happens through the Melissa S. Landers Write-On competition after first year or in winter quarter of second year. The competition includes a writing component and a personal statement, and the specific prompt is released with the Winter Write-On information during fall quarter.
Why it matters
Being on Law Review is a significant academic and professional opportunity because students spend two years on the journal. In the first year, members edit and review material for publication and write a full-length piece of legal scholarship; in the second year, they can serve in one of the journal’s departments or as part of the Editorial Board.
